Observing Fri. Dec. 16th – Decision 5.30pm

The forecast for tonight (Fridat December 16th) looks good.
However, the forecast of ‘mostly clear’ for this afternoon was wrong and it is still totally overcast at 4pm.

Therefore I’m going to wait until about 5.30pm to make a final decision.

Sunset is at about 8pm tonight.
If observing goes ahead I’ll be opening the gates at about 7.30pm.

Dear Observers,

Western Sydney Amateur Astronomy Group is hosting observing tonight at Linden Observatory, Linden, in the Blue Mts. Go to their website, www.wsaag.org, and click on "Linden Observatory" for directions. You will be a guest of WSAAG, and as such, are expected to donate $5 for upkeep. I can’t make it tonight, but by chance Peter Nosworthy is in the Blue Mts this weekend, and hopes to get there.

April General Meeting, Tuesday 18th

The NSAS April General Meeting will be next Tuesday the 18th at 7:30, at St. Ignatius. As usual, all members and any interested guests are welcome. Our speaker this month is Kitty Lo, who is a PhD candidate at USyd and CSIRO. Her abstract follows:

A whirlwind tour of the dynamic universe

In the ancient times, philosophers believed that the universe is an unchanging place. Most of the time, to the naked eyes, the night sky does indeed look constant. However, given enough time, or a powerful enough telescope, you will see that the universe is constantly evolving. In this talk, I will give a whirlwind tour of different types of explosive events – from Supernovae to Gamma Ray Bursts. I will also briefly describe the next generation telescopes which will greatly expand our knowledge of time-domain astronomy.

New Astronomers Group for March 22 is Postponed

The NAG (New Astonomers Group) for March 22nd has been postponed due to Bob being delayed in returning from overseas.

The plan is to have this meeting the FIRST Tuesday of April, which is the 5th, and have a second NAG in April to get back on schedule.
