Observing tonight Fri 23rd is ON

23 03 2012

Observing at North Turramurra is ON tonight. There will be someone there from 6:30 PM if you need help with your scope.

NSAS March General Meeting Tuesday 20th

17 03 2012

The NSAS March GM will be at Regis Hall, St. Ignatius, on Tuesday the 20th at 7:30 PM. Our speaker is Nickolas Seymour from CSIRO, and an abstract of his presentation follows:

“Imagine being able to look back to the beginnings of the Universe, find black holes, and test General Relativity whilst sitting at a computer. The massive and exciting changes in radio astronomy allow myself and other radio astronomers to do just that. Australia is at the forefront of these changes with its bid for the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) and the currently under construction SKA Pathfinder (ASKAP). My talk will focus on my work with the SKA and ASKAP and how these cutting edge projects are changing the nature of how we understand the evolution of the Universe.”

As usual, visitors are welcome.

Observing Fri 16th is Cancelled

16 03 2012

Observing tonight, Fri 16th, is cancelled due to increasing cloud. We’ll try again next Friday.

Observing for March

1 03 2012

Observing for March at North Turramurra will be the Fridays 16th and 23rd. We did get Observing in late in February, so maybe our luck with the weather will continue.

NSAS Events for March

1 03 2012

For March, we start out with the Theory Group on Tuesday the 13th, 7:45PM. The General Meeting is on Tuesday the 20th, 7:30PM, and our speaker is Nickolas Seymour from CSIRO, who will be speaking on “Radio Astronomy in the WA Bush”. This should be very topical, as the decision on the Square Kilometer Array is imminent. There are also a number of things to discuss in the GM, including the Transit of Venus in June, and a possible Field Trip to Narrabri later in the year. Our meeting venue is Regis Hall, and as usual, visitors are welcome. See you there.
