I intend to be there, hopefully with my new scope (depending on whether my car is functional by then).
How do I get on the SMS list?
Hi Peter, You have now been added to the SMS list.
Roy
I can report that it was a good night’s observing indeed. We had five or six scopes and a large pair of binoculars. We finally left at about 11pm after Jupiter and Uranus had risen above the trees.
I saw several things for the first time, including 47 Tucanae (although I couldn’t find it in my own scope), the ring nebula in Lyra (M57) and a moon shadow on Jupiter. Thanks to Gordon for helping me to find the elusive ring nebula by pointing it out with his laser.
Early in the evening we saw a UFO in the north east – possibly a tumbling satellite – which produced very bright but infrequent flashes as it crossed the sky. And later as we were packing up, Gordon spotted a mysterious horizontal beam of light going from east to south.
We also managed to observe seven planets (including Earth), with Neptune being the only one to escape our gaze.
Thanks to everyone for a great night.
Thanks for the report Peter. It sounds like it was a very interesting night. Wonder what the 2 mystery objects were that you guys saw.
